Vanessa Nakate is an Ugandan climate justice activist who began a solitary climate strike in January 2019, inspired by Greta Thunberg. For several months, she was the lone protester outside the Parliament of Uganda, eventually inspiring other youth to join her calls for action. Nakate founded the Youth for Future Africa and the Africa-based Rise Up Movement, gaining international recognition for her work.
