Biography

Timnit Gebru is an Eritrean Ethiopian-born computer scientist specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), algorithmic bias, and data mining. She is the founder and executive director of The Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (DAIR), established in 2021, which focuses on independent AI research that centers the experiences of marginalized communities.

Prior to founding DAIR, Gebru served as co-lead of the Ethical AI research team at Google AI from 2018 to 2020.
