Biography

Thomas Wiegand, born on May 6, 1970, in Wismar, is a German electrical engineer. He serves as an Executive Director at Fraunhofer HHI and is a Professor at TU Berlin.

Wiegand has substantially contributed to the creation of the H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC video compression standards. He also chairs the ITU-WHO Focus Group On AI For Health and is an Advisor for Skyfire (An Opera Software Company). Additionally, he serves on the Technical Advisory Board at Enghouse Video.
