Thomas Sowell, born June 30, 1930, is an American economist, economic historian, and social theorist. He currently serves as the Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. Known for his widely published commentary and numerous books, Sowell is a prominent voice in the American conservative movement and was a recipient of the National Humanities Medal from President George W. Bush in 2002.
