Biography

Tharman Shanmugaratnam is the ninth and current President of the Republic of Singapore, a position he assumed in 2023 after winning the presidential election. Prior to his presidency, he had a distinguished 22-year career in Singaporean politics, serving as a Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC from 2001 to 2023. His extensive government roles included Senior Minister (2019-2023), Deputy Prime Minister (2011-2019), Minister for Finance (2007-2015), and Minister for Education (2003-2008).
