Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is an Ethiopian public health official, researcher, and diplomat who has served as the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2017. He is the first African to hold this position, receiving endorsement from the African Union. In his role at the WHO, he has played a significant part in the global response to major health crises, including the Ebola virus epidemic, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2022–2023 mpox outbreak.
