Miguel Angel Cardona is an American educator and politician. He served as the 12th United States Secretary of Education under President Joe Biden from March 2, 2021, to January 20, 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, his confirmation by the U.
S. Senate occurred on March 1, 2021, with a vote of 64–33. Prior to his federal role, Cardona was the commissioner of the Connecticut State Department of Education from 2019 to 2021, becoming the first Latino to hold the position.
