Tawakkol Karman is a Yemeni journalist, politician, and human rights activist. She became the first Arab woman, the first Yemeni, and the second Muslim woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011. The prize recognized her non-violent struggle for the safety of women, women's rights to full participation in peace-building work, peace, and democracy in Yemen. She is known by titles such as the “Mother of the Revolution” and “Iron Woman.
