Stephen Lisle Carter is the William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law at Yale Law School, a position he has held since 1982. He is a legal scholar who writes on legal and social issues and teaches courses including contracts, evidence, professional responsibility, ethics in literature, intellectual property, and the law and ethics of war. Carter is also a novelist, with his first novel, "The Emperor of Ocean Park," spending 11 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list in 2002.
