Simon Anderson is an Australian competitive surfer, surfboard shaper, and writer, born on July 7, 1954. He grew up in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney, overlooking Collaroy Beach. Anderson began shaping surfboards in Brookvale, Sydney, in 1977, the same year he won the junior division at the Bells Beach Classic Easter competition and the Coke Surfabout in Sydney.
Anderson is widely credited with the invention of the 'thruster,' a revolutionary three-fin surfboard design, in October 1980.
