Dr. Sanam Vakil serves as the Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House. In this capacity, she offers geopolitical risk analysis, specializing in political economy dynamics, country-specific political trends, and regional security forecasting for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Concurrently, Dr. Vakil is a Professorial Lecturer at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Europe, a position she has held since 2008.
