Rony Abovitz, born in 1971, is an American entrepreneur. He attended the University of Miami, where he earned a master's degree in biomedical engineering. In 2004, Abovitz founded MAKO Surgical Corp., a company that manufactured surgical robotic arm assistance platforms. MAKO Surgical was later acquired by Stryker Corporation in 2013 for $1.65 billion.
In 2010, Abovitz founded Magic Leap, an augmented reality (AR) company based in Florida. He served as its CEO from its inception until May 2020.
