Rodney Benson is a professor of media, culture, and communication at New York University, where he is also an affiliated faculty member. He is an American sociologist, author, public speaker, and researcher.

Benson's research focuses on news media ownership, public media policy, foundation funding and nonprofit journalism, cultural and knowledge production and creativity, media and immigration, and political communication, with special expertise in the United States and Western Europe.
