Robert Merton Solow was an American economist recognized for his significant contributions to economic theory, particularly his studies of economic growth and the development of the Solow–Swan model. For this work, he was awarded the 1987 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. He served as an Institute Professor Emeritus of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he was a professor from 1949.
