Robert C. Merton is an American economist and a Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences laureate. He is widely recognized for his pioneering contributions to continuous-time finance, most notably the development of the Black–Scholes–Merton model, the first continuous-time option pricing model. In 1997, Merton and Myron Scholes jointly received the Nobel Memorial Prize for their work on valuing derivative securities.
