Richard Donald Marles is the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Minister for Defence, roles he has held since 2022. He also serves as the deputy leader of the Labor Party since 2019 and has been the Member of Parliament for the Victorian division of Corio since 2007. Marles is a lawyer by profession.
Born in Geelong, Victoria, in 1967, Marles attended Geelong Grammar School and the University of Melbourne, where he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours.
