Richard Sakwa is a British political scientist, born on August 22, 1953, in Norwich. He is an Emeritus Professor of Russian and European Politics at the University of Kent and an honorary professor in the Faculty of Political Science at Moscow State University. He completed a Bachelor of Arts at the London School of Economics in 1975 and a PhD at the University of Birmingham in 1984, with his doctoral research focusing on Moscow politics during the Russian Civil War.
