Reem Alsalem is the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, its Causes and Consequences, a mandate she commenced in August 2021 and which was expanded in June 2022 to include violence against girls. She also works as an independent consultant, specializing in humanitarian action and refugee protection with 23 years of experience.
Prior to her independent consulting work, Alsalem spent 17 years with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), serving across all continents.
