Randi Weingarten is a prominent American labor leader, attorney, and educator. She has served as the President of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) since 2008 and is a member of the AFL-CIO. Prior to her national role, she was the president of the United Federation of Teachers (UFT).
Born in New York City in 1957, Weingarten's interest in trade unions and political advocacy developed early, influenced by her mother's union strike.
