Biography

Rain Newton-Smith is the Director General of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), a position she assumed in April 2023. Prior to this, she served as the CBI's chief economist from August 2014 to March 2023, where she was a commentator on challenges faced by businesses.

Her career includes nine years at the Bank of England, where she prepared global forecast reports for the central bank's rate-setting committee.
