Philip Dunton Murphy is the 56th Governor of New Jersey, a position he has held since 2018. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected governor in 2017 and reelected in 2021, becoming the first Democratic governor of New Jersey to win a second term since 1977. Prior to his governorship, Murphy served as the U.S. Ambassador to Germany from 2009 to 2013.
Murphy's career began in finance, where he spent 23 years at Goldman Sachs, holding several high-level positions before retiring in 2006.
