Pavin Chachavalpongpun is a Thai scholar and associate professor at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University. He earned his PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
Time Magazine described him as a "prominent Thai political scholar and outspoken opponent of the country's coup." Following the 2014 military coup in Thailand, the Thai junta summoned him twice for his criticism of its political intervention.
