Norbert Röttgen, born in Meckenheim, Germany in 1965, is a German lawyer and politician. He completed his law studies in Bonn, passing his first state examination in 1989 and the second in 1993. In 2001, he earned his doctorate for his work on the case law of the European Court of Justice.
Röttgen joined the CDU party in 1982. After being elected chairman of the Young Union North Rhine-Westphalia in 1992, he entered the German Bundestag in 1994, where he has served ever since.
