Nalini Nadkarni is an American forest ecologist and Professor of Biology at the University of Utah. She pioneered the study of Costa Rican rain forest canopies, first taking an inventory in 1981 using mountain climbing equipment, followed by two more inventories in 1984. Known as «the queen of the forest canopy», her interest was initially drawn to understanding how abundant plant life could thrive in nutrient-poor rain forest soil.
