Melissa Dell is the Andrew E. Furer Professor of Economics at Harvard University, where she joined the faculty as an assistant professor in 2014 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2018. Her research interests span development economics, economic history, political economy, and computational economics. A major focus of her work involves explaining economic development through the persistence of historical institutions, with significant attention to Latin America and Southeast Asia.
