Melanie Mitchell is an American computer scientist and Professor at the Santa Fe Institute. Her major work spans artificial intelligence, machine learning, cognitive science, evolutionary computation, and complex systems. She is known for developing the Copycat cognitive architecture, which was the subject of her 1990 Ph.
D. dissertation under Douglas Hofstadter and John Holland at the University of Michigan.
