Matthew Ricketson is a Professor of Communication at Deakin University, where he has worked since 2017. His career in journalism and academia began in 1981. He started as a journalist at Standard News before joining The Age in 1982. He later covered Victorian politics for The Australian and worked for Time magazine's Australian office.
After his journalism career, Ricketson taught journalism at RMIT for 13 years.
