Matthew James Bryza is a former United States diplomat, born on February 16, 1964. He began his career in the United States Foreign Service in August 1988. Early in his service, he was posted in Poland from 1989-1991, covering the Solidarity movement, security service reforms, and regional politics.
He then worked on European and Russian affairs at the State Department from 1991 to 1995. From 1995 to 1997, Bryza served at the U.S.
Embassy in Moscow as a special assistant to Ambassador Thomas R.
