Martin Schirdewan is a German journalist and politician, born in East Berlin in 1975. He served as co-chairman of The Left from June 2022 to October 2024. Since 2017, he has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and was elected co-chair of The Left in the European Parliament (GUE/NGL) parliamentary group in 2019. He studied at the Free University of Berlin from 1998 to 2003, earning a doctorate in political science in 2007.
