Marlee Matlin is an American actress, author, and activist. Deaf since 18 months old, she made her acting debut in the romantic drama film *Children of a Lesser God* (1986), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. This made her the first deaf performer and the youngest winner in the Best Actress category to receive an Academy Award.
