Kip Stephen Thorne is an American astrophysicist and author, born on June 1, 1940. He shared the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics with Rainer Weiss and Barry C. Barish for their decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves.
He holds the title of Richard P. Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics, Emeritus, at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
