Biography

Karl Winfrid Eikenberry is an American diplomat and retired United States Army lieutenant general. He served as the U.S.

Ambassador to Afghanistan from April 2009 to July 2011. Prior to his diplomatic appointment, Eikenberry had a distinguished military career, commanding and holding staff positions in airborne, ranger, and mechanized infantry units across the United States, Korea, and Europe.
