John Osburg is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Rochester, where he specializes in the study of contemporary Chinese society. His work as a cultural anthropologist focuses on understanding the dynamics within China, particularly among its wealthy entrepreneurs and new rich.
From 2003 to 2006, Osburg conducted ethnographic fieldwork in southwest China, examining network building and deal making between businesspeople and government officials.
