John Mearsheimer is an American political scientist and international relations scholar, holding the position of R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago. He is widely recognized for his development of the neorealist, or structural realist, theory of offensive realism. This theory posits that the interaction between great powers is primarily motivated by a rational desire to achieve regional hegemony within an anarchic international system.
