John Joseph Hopfield, born July 15, 1933, is an American physicist and emeritus professor at Princeton University. He is widely recognized for his 1982 study of associative neural networks and the development of the Hopfield network, work that revitalized interest in artificial intelligence during a period known as the AI winter.
