Joan Donovan is an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media Studies at Boston University and the founder of the Critical Internet Studies Institute. As a sociologist of knowledge, she examines internet and technology systems, online extremism, media manipulation, and disinformation campaigns.
Her research explores how media manipulation controls public conversation, derails democracy, and disrupts society.
