Jerome Hayden "Jay" Powell is an American investment banker and lawyer who has served as the 16th Chair of the Federal Reserve since 2018. A native of Washington, D.C.
, he was initially nominated to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors by President Barack Obama in 2012. He was subsequently elevated to chairman by President Donald Trump, succeeding Janet Yellen, and renominated to the position by President Joe Biden for a second term, confirmed in May 2022.
