Jay Clayton, an American attorney, began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge Marvin Katz of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1993 to 1995. He then spent over twenty years at Sullivan & Cromwell, where he was involved in various business deals.
In 2017, Clayton was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a position he held until his resignation in December 2020.
