Biography

John F. Reed is an American politician, lawyer, and former Army officer. He currently serves as the senior United States Senator from Rhode Island, a position he was first elected to in 1996.

A member of the Democratic Party, Reed has been the dean of Rhode Island's congressional delegation since 1999. Prior to his Senate tenure, he represented Rhode Island's 2nd congressional district in the U.S.

House of Representatives from 1991 to 1997, where he focused on education and health care.
