Helmut Hermann W. Hofer, born February 28, 1956, is a German-American mathematician recognized as one of the founders of the field of symplectic topology. Since 2009, he has been a faculty member at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. His current research focuses on symplectic geometry, dynamical systems, and partial differential equations.
