Gregory Wayne Abbott is an American politician, attorney, and jurist who has served as the 48th Governor of Texas since 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he was first elected Governor on November 4, 2014. Prior to his governorship, Abbott served as the 50th Attorney General of Texas from 2002 to 2015, becoming the longest-serving Attorney General in state history with 12 years of service. As of 2025, he is also the longest-serving incumbent governor in the United States.
