Gina Joy Carano, born April 16, 1982, in Dallas County, Texas, is an American actress and former mixed martial artist. She began her career in Muay Thai before transitioning to MMA, competing in Elite Xtreme Combat and Strikeforce from 2006 to 2009. During this time, she compiled a 7–1 record, earning her the title "face of women's MMA" and headlining the first major MMA event with Cris Cyborg in 2009. Carano retired from competition after her defeat to Cyborg.
