George Soros, born Schwartz György on August 12, 1930, is a Hungarian-American investor and philanthropist. He survived the Nazi occupation of Hungary as a teenager and later moved to the United Kingdom, where he studied philosophy at the London School of Economics, earning a BSc in 1951 and an MSc in 1954.
Soros began his career in British and American merchant banks before establishing his first hedge fund, Double Eagle, in 1969.
