Fawzia Koofi is an Afghan politician, writer, and women's rights activist. She began her political career in 2001 after the fall of the Taliban, promoting girls' right to education through her "Back to school" campaign. In 2005, she was elected to the Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of the Afghan National Assembly, representing the Badakhshan district. She made history as the first female Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament in Afghanistan and was re-elected in 2010.
