Fabiola Gianotti is an Italian experimental particle physicist currently serving as the Director-General of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Switzerland. Her first mandate began on January 1, 2016, and she was reappointed for a second five-year term, which started on January 1, 2021, and continues until 2025. Gianotti is the first woman to hold the position of Director-General at CERN and the first to be appointed for a full second term in the organization's history.
