Evander Holyfield was born on October 19, 1962, in Atmore, Alabama, and later moved to Atlanta. He began boxing at age 12, winning the Boys Club boxing tournament and qualifying for the Junior Olympics a year later. By 15, he was the Southeastern Regional Champion, earning the Best Boxer Award. Holyfield represented the United States at the 1984 Summer Olympics, where he won a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division before turning professional at 21.
