Eugene Francis "Gene" Fama is an American economist and Nobel Laureate, born on February 14, 1939. He is widely recognized for his empirical work on portfolio theory, asset pricing, and the efficient-market hypothesis. His contributions have led to him being regarded as "the father of modern finance," having built the foundation of financial economics.
Fama is the Robert R. McCormick Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
