Eliezer Yudkowsky is an American artificial intelligence researcher and writer on decision theory and ethics. Born on September 11, 1979, he is widely recognized for his contributions to popularizing ideas related to friendly artificial intelligence. He is the founder of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI), a private research nonprofit based in Berkeley, California, where he also serves as a research fellow.
