Biography

Edmundo González Urrutia is a Venezuelan politician, analyst, and diplomat, born in La Victoria, Aragua, in 1949. An opposition figure and member of the Unitary Platform political alliance, he was its candidate in the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election. Following the disputed election results, several international bodies, including the U.

S. and most European nations, recognized him as the election winner. In December 2024, he was awarded the Sakharov Prize, alongside María Corina Machado.
