Biography

Dean Lawrence Kamen is an American engineer, inventor, and businessman. He is the founder of DEKA Research & Development, established in 1982, and the non-profit organization FIRST, which he founded in 1989 with Woodie Flowers. Kamen holds over 1,000 patents and is widely recognized for his inventions, including the Segway PT, an electric, self-balancing human transporter, and the iBOT, an all-terrain electric wheelchair.
